Assessment · United Kingdom
Two steps before you commit to anything.
First a one-day English assessment. Candidates who pass are then invited to a fourteen-day residential practical aptitude test. Only after both do you and we decide anything about a programme.
The English assessment
One day, at our centre in Sylhet. Written and spoken English at the level a working site actually needs — not an academic exam. Can you take an instruction, and can you give one back.
You get the result honestly. If your English is not there yet, we will tell you what would need to change, and you are welcome to come back.
Bring your degree or diploma certificate and your national ID.
Your family are welcome to come with you.
The practical aptitude test
Candidates who pass the English assessment are invited to a fourteen-day residential test. You live on campus, work in the workshop and yard, and we get to know how you learn and work.
Nobody expects trade skill. Two weeks is long enough to see how someone actually works — and long enough for you to find out whether this life suits you before you commit to a programme.
Accommodation and meals on campus for the fourteen days.
By invitation only, after you pass the English assessment.
Bring clothes and closed shoes you can work in.
What the fourteen days look at
Coordination
How your hands learn. Whether a movement you were shown once starts becoming yours by the third day.
Care
Whether you set your tools down properly, keep your area clean, and mind the work of the person next to you.
Patience
The same operation, again, until it is right. Two weeks is long enough to see who stops trying and who does not.
Whether you listen
You are told something once. What you do with it is the single best predictor of how you will do at work.
Not trade skill. None of our candidates arrive with it. These four things tell us whether you will get good — and they are the same four things a British employer will judge you on.
What to bring
Your degree or diploma certificate, and your transcript if you have it.
National ID, and your passport if you already hold one.
For the fourteen days: clothes and closed shoes you can work in, and anything you need to live on campus.
Your parents, if they want to come. We would rather they did.
Your questions. Write them down beforehand — people forget them in the room.
An honest assessment
This is a genuine assessment, not a formality — and not everyone is the right fit at either step. If it is not the right time for you, we will explain why, and what you could work on to come back stronger.
If you are accepted
Your programme, your timetable and everything it involves are set out for you and your family in person and in writing — and you take the paperwork home before you sign anything.
